GOSSIP two concerts in Italy in June and the new album (Info & Tickets)

Music news

After returning after over 10 years of silence with singles such as ‘Crazy Again’ and ‘Real Power’, Gossip also announce an international tour which will also take them to Italy for two dates in June.

An opportunity to see Beth Ditto’s band live with ‘Real Power’, the new album arriving on March 22nd (Sony Music). Produced by Rick Rubin – already working on ‘Music For Men’, a masterpiece of 2019 – the album sees the collaboration of Cody Critcheloe, aka SSION, who took care of the entire creative side.

THE DISC

‘Real Power’ celebrates the strength of music, creative expression and the power of family, chosen after collective and personal trauma. The album sees the trio composed of Beth Ditto, Nathan Howdeshell and Hannah Blilie together again and cross, in eleven tracks, a mixture of genres and sound textures, from propulsive rock to dance, up to a range of intense emotions capable of embracing the full range of human experience.

We’ve all experienced a lot of loss, and each of us has turned 40 since we last recorded together,” says Ditto,

These are such big moments in your life.” Ditto and Blilie have both split and the world has faced a pandemic since the last time the band was together, which was the 10th anniversary tour of ‘Music For Men’. All this led to a further rapprochement of the trio.

I understood many important things: that friendship is beautiful, that music is powerful, that we should never take life for granted,” adds Howdeshell.

I’m able to see the beauty in the little things now.”

This attitude led to the creation of the new album. “It was a real pleasure. We really had a great burst of creativity and energy, recording day and night,” Howdeshell recalls.

Working with Rubin again gave the band the space and support to reconnect with each other and create together. “Rick is pure in his creativity. He is not interested in trends or the opinions of a label. He always tries to bring out the best in us. ” says Howdeshell.

It’s a very supportive atmosphere,” agrees Ditto. “It feels like there’s another member of the band, but not in an intrusive way.

He is silent, he sits and listens. There’s a lot of talking with him, talking about emotions and asking questions. That’s the thing about producers, a lot of it is about the process of what’s happening in the moment, so you can be your best self and your freest self. Rick is really good at bringing you to the most authentic essence.”

The song ‘Real Power’, which gives the album its title, is a dancing hymn to the awareness of one’s own power. Musically, Howdeshell compares it to a “KISS disco song – we come from a post-punk and dance music background, it’s always been our style. “.

Ditto wrote the piece after the Black Lives Matter protests in his hometown of Portland. On the way the protests were reported, particularly on networks like Fox News, he said that “you would have thought it was like Mad Max, with the city on fire and anarchy.” Instead, “that song is about how great our city is.”
