The indie band Goose is parting ways with its drummer Ben Atkind, as is the New York post-punk band Geese, which confirms the departure of guitarist Foster Hudson.
In recent years, rock ‘n’ roll fans have witnessed a wacky coincidence: the rise of the indie band Goose and the New York post-punk band Geese (editor’s note: both names mean “goose”, respectively singular and plural). Although these two bands couldn’t be further apart in sound or style, they come together in name. Now, unexpectedly, Goose and Gesse announce musician departures on the same day.
Goose part ways with longtime drummer Ben Atkind, while Geese confirms the departure of guitarist Foster Hudson.
In a statement, Rick Mitarotonda, Peter Anspach, Trevor Weekz and Jeff Arevalo of Goose invoke “fundamental and creative disputes”adding: “We have reached a point where our trajectory is impossible to maintain in the long term. »
“More generally, we believe that this change is in everyone’s interest. Change can be painful and worrying, but it is an inevitable part of life. This group and the entire team around it means everything to us, and no aspect of this decision was taken lightly. We love Ben very much and wish him nothing but the best. We look forward to seeing and supporting him in his future projects. »
In his personal statement, Ben Atkind announces his departure “with a heavy heart and full of gratitude”, saying he is “lucky” to have been part of a group that started in a room in Connecticut to become one of the biggest country jam bands. Ben Atkin plays on all three Goose albums: Moon Cabin (2016), Shenanigans Nite Club (2021) and Dripfield (2022) (without forgetting the hundreds of concerts and recordings published by the group).
Geese, for their part, declared that Foster Hudson had been absent from the group’s engagements in recent months. They explain that the guitarist decided to “take leave from the group to pursue his academic projects. In the future, Foster will resume lessons while Geese will continue as a quartet. We fully support Foster in his decision to continue his studies. We hope you do too. »
Earlier in 2023, Geese released his second album, 3D Countryas well as another EP, 4D Country. The group formed in 2016, when most of its members were in high school. They had prepared to separate as they approached college. They nevertheless continued the adventure when they saw that their self-produced demos began to attract attention, before releasing their first album, Projectorin 2021.
