GOLDEN GLOBE: Camille and Clément Ducol win with “El Mal”, Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross awarded for Challengers

Music news

The Golden Globe ceremony, the awards assigned by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to the best cinematographic and television products of the year, was held on the night between 5 and 6 January.

Among the great protagonists of this edition, the musical Emilia Pérez stands out, winning four awards, including the one for best original song, underlining once again the importance of music in audiovisual narration.

Camille and Clément Ducol won the 2025 Golden Globe for Best Original Song with “El Mal” from the film Emilia Pérez. The song beat competitors such as “Compress/Repress” by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross (Challengers), “Beautiful That Way” by Miley Cyrus, Lykke Li and Andrew Wyatt (The Last Showgirl), “Kiss the Sky” by Maren Morris ( The Wild Robot), and “Forbidden Road” by Robbie Williams, Freddy Wexler and Sacha Skarbek (Better Man).

The award was presented by Jeff Goldblum and Michelle Yeoh.

The film's soundtrack, by Mexican composer Carlos Rivera, was among the most acclaimed of the year, with arrangements that blend traditional Mexican instruments and pop music. Although it didn't get the award for best soundtrack, its contribution was instrumental in making Emilia Pérez one of the most celebrated works of this season.

Among the winners also stand out Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross, who won the Golden Globe for best soundtrack thanks to their work in Challengers, the new film by Luca Guadagnino. The pair of composers, already awarded an Oscar for The Social Network, created a soundtrack that intertwines electronic sounds and minimalist atmospheres, perfectly in line with the Italian director's aesthetics.

The music of Challengers is not just an accompaniment, but a real character of the film, capable of emphasizing the emotional conflicts and tensions that the protagonists go through. This recognition confirms Reznor and Ross' ability to continually reinvent themselves, exploring new sonic frontiers.
