Florence Pugh, the actress, has spoken out about her role as Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Two. The second installment of Dune will introduce several new protagonists and antagonists, including Léa Seydoux, whose role is said to be significant according to director Denis Villeneuve. Florence Pugh has also joined the cast in the weighty role of Princess Irulan Corrino, daughter of Emperor Shaddam IV.
Although her character is important in the first installment of Dune, Princess Irulan does not have much screen time, and that was not a problem for Florence Pugh. During an interview with Total Film, Pugh said she was excited to join the project and work with the cast and crew.
Director Denis Villeneuve also discussed Pugh’s role, revealing that her character will not have much screen time in Dune: Part Two, but will play a central role in the “potential sequel.” This suggests that if the subsequent books are adapted, Pugh’s character will have a much larger role.
There is hope that Dune’s sequels will also be adapted into films, allowing Princess Irulan’s character to be fully developed. With a total of six original novels by Frank Herbert, and numerous subsequent novels by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson, this universe has the potential for a huge cinematic saga. In the meantime, fans can look forward to the release of Dune: Part Two on February 28, 2024 in French theaters..
