Israel continues to tighten the rope regarding its participation in the Eurovision 2024 festival. After being warned by the organization of the musical event, Hebrew public television confirmed that in the face of any refusal from the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) it would not change or a single comma from his song.
However, the harsh reality is that the legal reason assists the organizers of the event because it is defined as such in their statutes: no political references in the songs. A rule that was relatively overlooked in the edition that Ukraine won and where regional references were very marked in its theme.
Eden Golan has been the woman designated to represent Istal in the next Eurovision Song Contest, which in a couple of weeks will close the final election of the candidates and their respective songs. The Middle Eastern country seems to be still determined to represent on stage the atrocious attack that it experienced within its borders and that triggered the war against the Gaza Strip and Palestine.
However, it seems that not all is lost because initially the country invited to Eurovision said that it was not going to change anything about its song even a millimeter and has finally offered alternatives to the original song that was chosen by Israeli radio and television.
The EBU, the organizing body of the Eurovision Song Contest, He is finding himself at a crossroads from which he will have a hard time getting out without receiving thousands of criticisms from one side or the other. Because after all the decisions she made with the participation of Ukraine and her song with clear political references and the exclusion of Russia from the event, her particular ‘measuring stick’ has turned against her in the conflict between Israel and Palestine.
For weeks it has been receiving many requests from artists from countries such as Iceland, Finland or Sweden, host of this year’s event, who ask for the exclusion of the Israeli country from the contest. Just a few days ago, artists from the United States and the United Kingdom, mostly Jews, demanded that Eurovision ignore these requests.
At the moment, through its website and its official social media channels, Eurovision has neither confirmed nor denied that it is going to make a final and exclusion decision regarding Israel. And time keeps passing…
