Dua Lipa’s ace up her sleeve: This is what the extended version of ‘Houdini’ sounds like

Music news

Three weeks have gone a long way in the life of Dua Lipa. Because since it was published Houdini The song doesn’t stop playing around the world. 21 days since the British woman triggered the thermometers of half the planet and even though she was wearing a tracksuit and comfortable clothes. Well, not satisfied with that, the London artist of Kosovo origin has decided to up the ante and has released a new version of her most recent hit.

Houdini extended edition was scheduled to premiere in the early hours of this December 1st as she herself explained on her networks. But the song has been brought forward a few hours. Houdini is a great pop song with psychedelic dance touches that already has almost 40 million views on its YouTube channel.

To create the magic of this single, Dua Lipa has counted on Kevin Parker —better known as Tame Impala—, Caroline Polachek and the PC Music collective. Production heavyweights who have created a musical bridge that will make your skin crawl. And that distorted one is Tame Impala’s trademark. Although there is no shortage of ears that even raise the reference a little higher and start from a sound similar to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.

Now it’s the turn of the person responsible for Future nostalgia to surprise us even more with a new extended version of those 3 minutes and 5 seconds. An ace up her sleeve that she herself was responsible for announcing on her official social media channels: “All plans go out the window, when we’re out so late at night 🔐 ~ houdini extended edition ~ yours tomorrow midnight ~” Dua Lipa posted on her official Instagram profile.

The result has been to almost double the original length, adding a couple of new verses not present in the original version and several instrumental bridges that highlight the production. Because the singer experiments with those psychedelic references created with synthesizers that worked so well in the sixties to bring it into the 21st century. A sound that, although we have been seeing it in recent times in various productions, Dua Lipa has taken it to the most mainstream terrain.

The fact of publishing this extended version is a movement that is not usually very common in the universe of the pop music industry but is the order of the day in genres such as electronic music in which the same song can have several different versions or even remixes.

This is the letter of Houdini (extended version and the new stanzas highlighted in black):

I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you denied me

I’m not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go

Prove you got the right to please me

Everybody knows

Catch me or I go Houdini

Time is passin’ like a solar eclipse

See you watchin’ and you blow me a kiss

It’s your moment, baby, don’t let it slip

Come in closer, are you reading my lips?

They say I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you need me

I’m not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go

Prove you got the right to please me

Everybody knows

Catch me or I go Houdini

If you’re good enough, you’ll find thе way

Maybe you could cause a girl to change her ways

Do you think about it night and day?

Maybe you could be the one to make me stay

Everything you say is soundin’ so sweet (Ah-ah)

But do you practice everything that you preach? (Ah-ah)

I need something that’ll make me believe (Ah-ah)

If you got it, baby, give it to me

Weave the ceiling from tomorrow

Free the people from daylights

All the plans go out the window

When we’re out this late at night

They say I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you need me

I’m not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go (I come and I go)

Prove you got the right to please me

Everybody knows (I’m not here for long)

Catch me or I go Houdini

If you’re good enough, you’ll find the way

Maybe you could cause a girl to change her ways

Do you think about it night and day?

Maybe you could be the one to make me stay (stay) (oh-oh) (Ooh)

Time is passin’ like a solar eclipse

See you watchin’ and you blow me a kiss

It’s your moment, baby, don’t let it slip

Come in closer, are you reading my lips?

They say

Ooh

I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you need me (Ooh)

I’m not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go (I come and I go)

Prove you got the right to please me

Everybody knows (I’m not here for long)

Catch me or I go Houdini

Weave the ceiling from tomorrow

Free the people from daylights

All the plans go out the window

When we’re out this late at night

They say I come and I go

Tell me all the ways you need me

I’m not here for long

Catch me or I go Houdini

I come and I go (I come and I go)

Prove you got the right to please me

Everybody knows (I’m not here for long)

Catch me or I go Houdini

Houdini

Houdini

Houdini

Catch me or I go Houdini
