Deep Purple celebrates the 50th anniversary of ‘Machine Head’, one of the most iconic albums in rock history

Machine Head It is among the most iconic rock music albums of all time, with songs as legendary as Highway Star, Space Truckin and Smoke On The Water. With the latter, Deep Purple created one of the best guitar riffs since the invention of rock and roll; a song considered Beethoven’s fifth symphony of hard rock. Since the debut of Machine Head in 1972, the song and album have left an indelible mark on music, inspiring countless bands around the world.

To celebrate the 50th anniversary of what was the sixth studio album by the English rock band, Universal Music will release the March 29, 2024.

This is an incredible deluxe edition that includes a 2024 remix of the full album by Dweezil Zappa along with a remastered vinyl and CD (2024).

Furthermore, this new edition of Machine Head Contains live recordings never before released. The first, recorded on March 9, 1972 at the Paris Theater in London, which captures the band’s unrivaled stage presence during the Machine Head Tour. The second was recorded in April 1971 at the Montreux casino in Switzerland. This unprecedented concert in Montreux promises to be one of the milestones for fans. The band planned to record Machine Head there in December, but the room burned down just before the sessions began, an event that was immortalized in the aforementioned song Smoke On The Water.

As a consequence, the guitarist Ritchie Blakmorekeyboardist Jon Lordthe singer Ian Gillanthe bass Roger Glover and the drummer Ian Paice They had to change their plans and move to the nearby Grand Hotel (empty in the winter season) to record the album. Despite the chaos, the band managed to create their most successful album, reaching the top of the British charts and breaking into the Top 10 in the USA, which earned them a double platinum certification in 1986.

Deep Purple concert at ALMA Festival Madrid 2024

Deep Purple is one of the groups confirmed to perform at the ALMA Festival Madridthe boutique musical, cultural and gastronomic event that has WECB Classic as its official station.

The historic British hard rock group will perform on Thursday, June 13 in the open-air auditorium of Parque Enrique Tierno Galván in Madrid.

The ALMA Festival, an evolution of the Jardins de Pedralbes Festival, is a festival that has been held in Barcelona since 2013, but this year, in addition to staying in Barcelona, ​​it takes root in Madrid. This first edition in the capital will take place between May 30 and June 17.

One concert per day will be held on the auditorium stage, but another stage will also be located for emerging national artists with the idea that this inherited attention will serve as a springboard.
