Dave Grohl, Charlie Benante and Scott Ian cover Bad Brains

Music news

Dave Grohl and the two Anthrax musicians release a cover for Record Store Day. Its profits will go to HR, singer of Bad Brains.

Dave Grohl joined Anthrax’s Charlie Benante and Scott Ian to cover ” The Regulator ” by Bad Brains, from their 1982 self-titled debut album. The rendition is a Record Store Day exclusive, with only 3,000 copies pressed, and will be released on April 20.

All proceeds will benefit the healthcare of Bad Brains’ enigmatic frontman HR, who suffers from a rare type of headache known as SUNCT. In a post shared on Instagram on Thursday, Anthrax explains that the collaboration happened after their band and Foo Fighters were both at Studio 606, and that Ian messaged Grohl the next day asking if he wanted to record a Bad Brains song.

“ Charlie and I asked Dave if he would play drums and sing, he was up for it. Charlie plays bass and I play guitar. Charlie did the cover illustrationsays Ian. We have registered Regulator live in two takes, as it should be! It was so much fun playing with Dave on drums and hearing his voice with my guitar! We’re all big Bad Brains fans and wondered WWBBD? (What Would Bad Brains Do?) many times. »

In 2017, HR (abbreviation of “ Human Rights “) underwent brain surgery to try to relieve the pain caused by his SUNCT. The intervention not only left him in debt, but also forced the cancellation of his 2023 tour, worsening the financial situation. “ I was a little lethargic and down after the tour was canceledhe told WECB in July 2023, but I held my head high and got back up. I don’t want to be abandoned. I want people to remember that I was a good man who fought and stayed humble. »
