French electro duo unveils a percussion-less version of their fourth and final album, released in 2013. Back in May, the duo had already released another version of their album, enriched with several new tracks.
A new unreleased track for the French duo. Ten years after its release, the last album of Daft Punk, Random Access Memories, will be released in a new unreleased version on Friday, November 17th. The songs are this time performed without drums or percussion.
“Listening to the album without drums creates an entirely new experience, and the songs are transformed,” a statement cited by Konbini reported.
“‘Within (Drumless Edition)’ is the first track from the album available. Devoid of percussion, this new version highlights the timeless structure of the song, and Chilly Gonzales’ piano takes on an even more introspective and self-reflective quality,” the duo announced when they revealed the first track from this new version at the end of September.
This is not the first re-release of the album released in 2013. Last May, the ambassadors of French Touch had already introduced their fans to a new edition of their 13-track final opus, which they had enriched with 9 unreleased tracks.
These tracks were composed at the time of the album’s creation but were not included in its final version. A 32-second track, called ‘GL (Early Take),’ a sort of draft of the future hit ‘Get Lucky,’ also was unveiled to the public.
Upon its release in 2013, Random Access Memories reached number 1 in France and in many foreign countries. It won three Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, while their hit ‘Get Lucky’ also received two awards.
The duo, composed of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, surprised their fans by announcing their split in 2021, after 28 years of collaboration. Their presence at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris was denied by director Thomas Jolly last November.
