“ We are very sad to learn of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musicianwrote the group. Good memories, rock in peace Colin. »
Before joining AC/DC, Burgess was the drummer for the popular Australian rock band The Masters Apprentices. After that group broke up in 1972, Burgess was recruited by brothers Malcolm and Angus Young and Dale Evans to join their new group, AC/DC, in November 1973.
However, Burgess’ stay with AC/DC only lasted four months, as he was fired from the group in February 1974 after allegedly performing while drunk. The drummer’s recordings with the group are limited to a single and a minor Australian hit, ” Can I Set Next To You, Girl “, along with ” Rockin’ in the Parlor » ; the first song was later re-recorded by the band with the members eventually replacing Burgess and vocalist Evans (drummer Phil Rudd and Bon Scott) for the album TNT from 1975 by AC/DC.
While Burgess is not one of the AC/DC members inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he was inducted into Australia’s ARIA Hall of Fame for his work with the Masters Apprentices.
