Music news

Britney Spears has confirmed that a ” secret project » was in progress with the producer of « Wicked “, Marc Platt.

Britney Spears' life will soon be brought to the screen. On Thursday, the pop star announced that she ” was working on a secret project “, apparently a biopic, with producer Marc Platt. A few minutes later, Variety reported that Universal Pictures had picked up the rights to the film, and that Platt and Jon Chu (who are both working on Wicked) were responsible for developing it.

According to The Anklerthe film will be based on the singer's memoirs, The Woman in Me, released last October. The book quickly became a bestseller. It details her 13 years of guardianship, parenthood, her complex relationships with former partners and how her relationship with music was permanently altered.

The film is a sequel to the unofficial biopic, Britney Ever Afterwhich aired in 2017 on Lifetime. At the time, a representative for Spears told Entertainment Weekly that the singer would not contribute ” somehow to the Lifetime biopic…and that it doesn't have his blessing. »

Around the time of the end of Britney Spears' conservatorship, her life was also the subject of several documentaries, including Framing Britney Spears of New York Times and FX and Britney vs. Spears from Netflix.

Last year, Josey McNamara (the production manager at Margot Robbie's production company LuckyChap) confirmed that the company was not pursuing the rights to Spears' memoir, following rumours of Robbie's interest. Unfortunately, no. She has an extraordinary story. I am sure she will find the right people. We are not chasing after her. »
