Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan is joining the body positivity movement by talking about the stain on his hand.
Wanting to take part in the “body positivity” movement, Billy Corgan, the singer of the Smashing Pumpkins, has spoken out about his birthmarks.
Corgan has rarely spoken publicly about his port-wine stains, but he was inspired by model and influencer Carlotta Bertotti, who wears one on her face. I'm a fan of the body positivity movement because ultimately it's about celebrating what makes us “us.”Corgan wrote on Instagram. So as you can see, here is a beautiful young woman (@carlotta_bertotti) with a birthmark who has embraced her “difference” with grace. “.
Corgan continued: “ My whole life I have tried to hide my birthmarks, which are called “port wine stains,” because as you can imagine, I was teased mercilessly about them as a child. So much so that people who have known me for a decade or so are shocked when they finally “see.” »

The Smashing Pumpkins frontman said his birthmark even causes people to stop him on the street, not because they recognize him, but because they fear he has a problem that requires immediate medical attention.
” A positive message for todayCorgan concluded. Whoever you are, I hope you find peace with who you are. Because I would like to know that person and no one else. »
Port wine stains, also called ” nevus flammeus “, appear on newborns and can “ become darker and raised or bumpy over time » (according to the Cleveland Clinic). They come from « abnormally formed capillaries (tiny blood vessels under the skin) ” that have stretched more than usual, but scientists still don't know what causes them to expand.
Corgan previously featured his birthmark on the cover of his 2005 debut solo album, TheFutureEmbrace, which features a photo of him framing his face with his hands. However, there are very few interviews in which he discusses this topic. The Smashing Pumpkins fan site Starla.org has archived an interview Corgan gave in 1995 in which he discusses his birthmark while talking about his childhood and his feelings of being a ” monster » : « I have a very large birthmark on my left hand, which as an adult is obviously not a big deal, but as a child you feel like you have a completely deformed arm. It didn't bother me at all, but I was treated almost like a cripple. It was a bit weird and insidious. I have a brother who has a kind of Down syndrome, so I have a lot of sympathy for people who have more serious problems, but for me it was weird, because I felt normal, and I was, so to speak, and yet I was kind of an outcast because of this deformity. But then again, I've always been weird, let's not kid ourselves. »
Corgan and the Pumpkins have released their 13th studio album, Aghori Mhori Meilast month. The band is in the midst of a North American tour, primarily as a stadium opening act for Green Day, with dates scheduled through the end of the month.
