AIR in concert in Milan (Info and lineup)

Music news

This evening, February 25th, at the Fabrique in Milan, Air will be on stage celebrating 25 years since the release of “Moon Safari”.

THE DISC

On January 16, 1998, Air released “Moon Safari,” an album that catapulted Nicolas Godin and Jean-BenoĂ®t Dunckel from anonymity straight to the top rung of the electronic music ladder. Despite being two ordinary twenty-year-olds with only one EP under their belt, Air are the confidence and naturalness of two seasoned professionals. Godin and Dunckel had the blessing of knowing how to intuit pop sounds that could bewitch pop culture: the album “Moon Safari” contains an entire universe, and if today the legacy of the album is established, at the time of its publication the The record’s multimillion-dollar success was far from assured.

In no time at all, Air’s downtempo influence was immediately felt by the mainstream. Through “Moon Safari”, Air have managed to appeal to some of the great visionaries of the late twentieth century – David Bowie, Madonna, Beck among them – and also pre-eminent icons of the contemporary era – including Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kevin Parker and Sofia Coppola, whose creative relationship with Air has become as synergistic as that between Angelo Badalamenti and David Lynch (another fan).

“Moon Safari” gave rise to hit singles such as “Kelly Watch The Stars”, “All I Need” and “Sexy Boy”, sold millions of copies worldwide and allowed Air to headline major concerts festival.

25 years later, it is not difficult to understand why “Moon Safari” has passed the most difficult test, that of time. That of Air and “Moon Safari” is a state of mind in which you want to live forever. It is a revelation, it is conversation music for a better future, or as Dunckel called it “a profound universal incantation, full of love and mystery”. In 2024, a quarter of a century later, Air will perform “Moon Safari” live for the first time on their headlining tour.
