Property developers demolished the listed house where Angus and Malcolm Young founded AC/DC in 1973.
Australian developers forced to apologize after demolishing “ accidentally » the house where AC/DC formed in 1973. As news.com.au reports, the childhood home of brothers Malcolm and Angus Young, located on Burleigh Street in Sydney, was bulldozed ago a few weeks.
The terraced house was purchased by developers in February 2023 for $5.8 million and was included on the National Trust's list of historic houses in 2013, after becoming a place of pilgrimage for fans of the hard rock pioneers .
In a statement, developers Burwood Square Pty Ltd said the company only discovered the history of the property after it was demolished. “ We regret that the previous long-time owner did not share this essential part of the property's history with ussaid Leon Kmita, managing director of Burwood. We were shocked to learn of this connection when our projects were already underway. We are sincerely sorry for this error. »
Mr Kmita went on to explain that his team was now working to transform the site into a “ special space » where the band's legacy could be celebrated, in the form of a café or bar.
The original home of AC/DC band members brothers Angus & Malcolm Young is no more. Knocked down by property developers because Burwood council would not historically list it. More Australian history gone. pic.twitter.com/IQ3Cw9E9cx

I'm outraged! I went into the house once and the occupants were very happy to show me around…especially where the famous sewing machine was with AC/DC on the back. https://t.co/v6g9raRaem

“ On behalf of the Burwood Square team, I would like to express our sincerest regretshe continued. Today we know how deeply this place resonates with the AC/DC community and fans around the world. We feel an obligation to honor the legacy of AC/DC and make amends to all the fans who hold this group in such high regard. Although we cannot change the past, we are determined to celebrate this important part of their history. »
The Young family settled in the suburb of Burwood in 1963, having emigrated from Scotland when Angus was eight. They lived in several houses in the area before settling permanently at 4 Burleigh Street in 1965.
