Sublime to reunite with Bradley Nowell’s son at Coachella

Music news

Sublime has decided to reform with Jakob, Bradley Nowell’s son, for Coachella 2024.

Sublime will reunite this year with Bradley Nowell’s son Jakob as the group’s frontman. On Tuesday, Coachella announced its lineup, which notably includes the reunion of the original members of Sublime. The band revealed shortly after the announcement that Jakob would be joining drummer Bud Gaugh and bassist Eric Wilson.

“ There are so many facets to this project for me. From a spiritual point of view, my father passed away at the age of 28, and I am 28 today. It is an honor to carry on our family’s name and legacy with Sublime, Jakob said in a statement. I’m a musician and have been working on my own projects since I was 18. It’s an absolute privilege to be able to play these Sublime songs with legendary musicians like Eric and Bud. »

“ On a personal note, my uncles Bud and Eric were made to play these songs and the fans want to hear them. I am excited, nervous, grateful and humbled to step into this role and begin this new chapter.he added. I feel like my big crazy family is finally reunited and I couldn’t be happier. »

The news comes just a month after Jakob performed with them at a charity event. Wilson performed alongside Rome Ramirez in Sublime with Rome, where the group performed songs performed by the original Sublime band. Nowell was Sublime’s frontman until his death in 1996.

Gaugh said he never doubted he would make music with Wilson again, but Jakob’s arrival reminded him a lot of the early days. Gaugh praised the “ raw talent » by Jakob and expressed his enthusiasm for the new era of Sublime.

“ It’s great because I haven’t had the opportunity to play with Bud Gaugh in over ten yearsadded Wilson. And having Brad’s son play our music is the closest thing possible to playing with my old buddy Brad. »

The band also signed a management contract with Regime Music Group’s Kevin Zinger and Vandals bassist Joe Escalante.

In 2009, Nowell’s estate threatened legal action against former members of Sublime and Ramirez. The dispute was settled in early 2010 and the name Sublime with Rome was retained. (Gaugh was also briefly a member of the group).

The news of Sublime’s reunion comes as Coachella announced its full lineup Tuesday night, with Lana Del Rey, Doja Cat and Tyler, the Creator headlining, as well as the reunion of another ska group: No Doubt.
