Michael Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will play the King of Pop in this film scheduled for spring 2025.

The Michael Jackson biopic will be released in theaters on April 18, 2025 in the United States, the film’s distributor, Lionsgate, announced Thursday. Michael Jackson’s nephew Jaafar Jackson will play the King of Pop in the film.

Antoine Fuqua, director of the trilogy Equalizer as well as films Emancipation And Southpaw, among others, was approached to direct the biopic last year. The film received approval from the Jackson estate, and Graham King, who produced the biopic Bohemian Rhapsody on Queen, co-produced Michael alongside John Branca and John McClain, the executors of the Jackson estate. John Logan, the screenwriter of Gladiator, Rango And Hugo, wrote the screenplay for the film.

“Michael will offer audiences a thrilling and honest portrait of the brilliant but complicated man who became the King of Popwe can read in the synopsis of the film. The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale, from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances. Like never before, audiences will get an inside look at one of the most influential and innovative artists the world has ever known. »

Michael Jackson remains one of the best-selling and most influential artists of all time, although his career has been marked by controversy. It remains to be seen how the project will address the multiple child sexual abuse allegations that surfaced against Jackson during his lifetime and after his death, if the film addresses the issue at all. The singer and his estate have repeatedly denied the allegations, which came under intense scrutiny following the release of the documentary Leaving Neverland in 2019.
