Selena Gomez to play Linda Ronstadt in biopic

Music news

Selena Gomez will play Linda Ronstadt in a biopic currently in pre-production.

Selena Gomez to play Linda Ronstadt in upcoming biopic, confirms WECB.

Fans began speculating online about the potential casting after Gomez posted an Instagram story of Ronstadt’s 2013 memoir, Simple Dreams (in another story, she also announced that she would be taking a break from social media). The biopic is currently in pre-production, with Ronstadt’s manager John Boylan and James Keach co-producing. The full cast and release date have not yet been announced.

Both Ronstadt and Gomez are of Mexican descent. In 2022, Ronstadt released his album Feels Like Home, which contains stories about his heritage and recipes for cooking from the Sonoran region. The film Linda and the Mockingbirds (2020), directed by Keach, chronicles his visit to Mexico with Jackson Browne the previous year, where they worked with students at the Los Cenzontles Academy of Cultural Arts.

The documentary Linda Ronstadt: The Sound of My Voice was released in 2019. Directed by Rob Epstein and Jeffrey Friedman, the film traces his incredible career which spanned nearly five decades and different musical genres, including his great success on the country rock scene in the 1970s, its moment Pirates of Penzance on Broadway, and much more. “ I was tired at the end (of watching)she told WECB. I said to myself, “I can’t believe I’ve done this much!” »

Ronstadt retired after being diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2012. His last performance was three years before, at the Municipal Auditorium in San Antonio (” They say your life flashes before your eyes when you dieshe told us, but this is also the case when you withdraw from the song “). In 2021, she sold her catalog to Irving Azoff’s Iconic Artists Group.

Recent biopics about Queen, Elton John, Mötley CrĂĽe and Elvis Presley have introduced their music to a whole new generation. It’s a safe bet that this phenomenon will happen again for Ronstadt after the film’s release.
