Discover the strength of psychedelic cumbia against capitalism.
Cumbia and synthesizers became one in the new single by The Mariachi Ghost Check out this preview of his next studio album. This is “The Imperial Hurricane”!
The Canadian ensemble is making its premiere with its song “The Imperial Hurricane”, an instrumental composition that invites us to dance against capitalism. This melody takes inspiration from the mural “Tropical America” by the Mexican painter David Alfaro Siqueiros, which represents colonization, the force of a predatory power that consumes everything in its hunger for possession.
With fusions, tropical sounds transform into a psychedelic cumbia, while traditional instruments flow, synthesizers alter the common form of the genre. Now the guitars are like waves and the electronic sounds impact the tropical power.
We wanted to bottle this idea that in Mexico if things go well, there is a party and if things go badly too, within the context of Christmas consumerism. It is an achievement to be able to recreate the idea of ’navi-darks’ with the sounds of my native Iztapalapa and with a Canadian experimental music band,” he commented. Jorge Requena Ramos.
