The Weeknd’s XO Humanitarian Fund sent enough to pay for the equivalent of 4 million emergency meals to civilians in Gaza.

The Weeknd’s XO Humanitarian Fund is sending $2.5 million to Gaza, which will pay for the equivalent of more than four million emergency meals for affected civilians. The United Nations World Food Program (WFP) indicates that this sum will make it possible to purchase 820 tonnes of food, enough to feed more than 173,000 Palestinians for two weeks.

The artist, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, became a WFP ambassador in October 2021. He created his XO Humanitarian Fund with the World Food Program USA, which has raised $5 million to date to help people who do not have easy access to food. He also donated $1.8 million of his own money to the WFP.

“ This conflict has triggered an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophesaid Corinne Fleischer, WFP regional director for the Middle East, North Africa and Eastern Europe, in a statement. The WFP is working around the clock to deliver aid to Gaza, but a significant increase is needed to meet the desperate level of hunger we are seeing. Our teams need safe and sustainable humanitarian access and continued donor support to reach as many people as possible. We thank Abel for this valuable contribution in favor of the Palestinian people. We hope that others will follow Abel’s example and support our efforts. »

The organization reports that Tesfaye’s XO group has already donated $2.5 million to provide emergency food aid to Ethiopian women and children. Tesfaye also pledged to donate one dollar from every concert ticket he sells during the stadium tour to the XO Humanitarian Fund After Hours ’til Dawn of next year. He has not yet announced tour dates.
