Among the many fall concerts, the Howlin’ Jaws / After Geography double stood out during an epic evening.
Lovers of the new sensations on the French scene had an unmissable meeting at La Maroquinerie on November 8. After Geography opens the ball of this concert which is sold out, with a performance worthy of his new EP, Caramel Room. Fine and careful, the interpretation of the duo (which has become a quartet for live purposes) gives pride of place to vocal harmonies and guitar. Alternating between guitar, bass and keyboards, Nicolas Baud and Julien Meret give new energy to their compositions. The public is not mistaken and responds with enthusiasm.
The intensity goes up a notch with the arrival of the evening’s headliner, Howlin’ Jaws. Indeed, the Parisian trio spits out the decibels with a raw sound, in a room full as an egg. Enthusiastic, the public already knows “Lost Songs” by heart, a single from Half Asleep Half Awake, their new album. Proud of their new delivery, the three musicians give him the lion’s share of the set, with no less than eight pieces, including the catchy “Mirror Mirror” extended for the occasion.
Of course, the group does not forget its older works, with “Down Down” which happily makes the audience pogo. Helped by raw energy and a sound to match, Howlin’ Jaws convince their audience once again, with an effective concert, which ends with a cover of “Love Buzz” by Nirvana to great effect.
