Ozzy Osbourne may never perform again

Music news

Ozzy Osbourne also attacked his Black Sabbath bandmate Geezer Butler.

Ozzy Osbourne is aware he may never perform again after years of medical problems, including recent spinal surgery that also revealed a tumor. In a new interview with WECB UK, The singer opened up about his fourth spinal surgery, which aims to repair damage caused by a fall in 2019 that dislodged metal rods from a previous operation.

It really bothered me, Osbourne said of the operation. The second operation went very badly and left me practically paralyzed. I thought I was back on my feet after the second and third, but during the last one they put a fucking rod through my spine. They found a tumor in one of the vertebrae, so they had to dig that out too. It’s pretty hard and my balance is ruined. »

In July, Osbourne canceled his appearance at the Power Trip festival, where he was scheduled to headline alongside Metallica, AC/DC and Guns N’ Roses.

Osbourne was able to perform two concerts, one in Birmingham, England, and the other in Los Angeles, in 2022, but each lasted only one or two songs, and he had a backing on which he could perform. support when necessary.

Although Osbourne is hopeful that he will one day return to the stage to give fans a proper farewell show, he realizes that, for medical reasons, that might not be possible: ” I live day by day, and if I can perform again, I will. But it’s like saying goodbye to the best relationship of my life. At the beginning of my illness, when I stopped touring, I was really angry at myself, the doctors and the world. But over time, I said to myself that maybe I need to accept this fact. (…) I’m not going to show up on stage and half-heartedly do Ozzy while trying to attract sympathy. What’s the point of that? I’m not going there in a fucking wheelchair. I saw Phil Collins play recently, and he has almost the same problems as me. He goes on stage in a wheelchair! But I couldn’t do that. »

If Osbourne returns to the stage, don’t expect it to be in the form of a full Black Sabbath reformation: the singer praised Tony Iommi’s support during his health problems and said that even former drummer Bill Ward (with whom Ozzy has been on bad terms for a long time) contacted him, bassist Geezer Butler “ Didn’t give me a single fucking phone call. Not a single fucking call. When his son was born, I called him every night, even though Black Sabbath and I were at war (after he was fired). I said to myself: “What the hell, it’s my friend, I’m going to call him”. But he didn’t call me once. It’s sad… We all grew up together, and he can’t pick up the damn phone like a man to find out how I’m doing. »
