Last night, during a performance at the 24th edition of the Latin Grammys, the singer Alejandro Sanz reinterpreted his classic 1997 song, Broken heart. And he did it with a very Andalusian staging, also coinciding with International Flamenco Day.
The Madrid artist, who was dressed With glasses with dark lenses and hair dyed platinum blonde, he proclaimed his pride in being Spanish just before a staging of Andalusian-inspired arches and surrounded by a large group of dancers who have tapped their feet and waved shawls to the rhythm of its well-known melody.
As an anecdote, Sanz has been forced to repeat the spoken introduction to his song due to some mismatch and while a good part of the audience was chanting his name loudly.
Her performance was another nod to Andalusian culture that was promised by those responsible for this edition and took place just after the opening number of Rosalía’s gala, which she covered in a flamenco key. Our love brokewhich his compatriot Rocío Jurado popularized and Manuel Alejandro wrote.
For his part, the Malaga actor Antonio Banderaswho received the Academy’s Presidential Award, also wanted to praise in his speech the change of venue in this edition to Andalusia, “fertile land” and of creators such as Federico García Lorca or Rafael Alberti.
In the previous non-televised ceremony, attendees at the Seville Congress and Exhibition Palace (FIBES) were also able to enjoy a pure flamenco performance starring the candidates for the best album in this category, including Israel Fernández and Niña Pastori.
New songs in 2024
According to EFE, before participating in the Latin Grammy gala last night, Sanz was happy and declared that he was proud that “everyone has gone out of their way” to make the gala go as well as possible. “The one we’ve all mixed up”he told reporters.
Furthermore, the singer announced that he is currently working on new songs that may be released early next year and that he plans a new album.
