Review: DRAKE – “For All The Dogs Scary Hours Edition”

Reviews

That Drake lately had a musical hyper proliferation syndrome was already known a few months ago with the release of “For All The Dogs”.

A disc of 23 songs for a good hour and a half. Now, just over a month after the release of his official album, here he is surprisingly back with a deluxe edition with 6 new songs to make up almost two hours of “Drakite”.

Honestly, I’m not clear on the motivation that pushed the Toronto rapper to create this gift package.
Maybe the Christmas spirit? Perhaps the not fully achieved expectations of the original project? Maybe his infinite ego to satisfy? Or just perhaps a mere marketing operation planned for some time?

The six songs represent an addition and a sort of corrective to the sprawling excess of “For All The Dogs”.
Songs that had not remained in the drawer but which were created from scratch a posteriori, after the release of the album, almost like an afterthought, a calibration of the shot.

They go back to the new music it all starts with Red Buttona song where Drake puts himself in a competitive battle with Taylor Swift, another music giant like him.

We continue with a short thread where Drake actually speaks. The singing is at its lowest level and the rapping never changes gear.
Everything is surrounded by top-level beats that soften the flow and make it sensual and super urban.

Then it arrives Evil Ways with the feat. J Cole is a very, very stylish old style piece that seems like the continuation of First Person Shooter inserted in the first part of the album.

It all ends with You Broke My Heart, epic, dark, painful and finally sung!

Will Drake now be happy with his album or will he want to add more?
That’s fine with us… in the end he never disappoints me!

SCORE: 7.50 (also for the new songs)
