The animated clip for the collaboration between The National and Phoebe Bridgers was directed by Bernard Derrimen.
The National and Phoebe Bridgers laugh to keep from collapsing in the animated new music video for their recent collaboration, “ Laugh Track “.
The clip was directed and animated by Bernard Derrimen, who recently directed Bob’s Burgers: the movie. In this clip, a couple sit down for a serious conversation, but are quickly overwhelmed by a sea of laughing faces. However, before the pair drown in dark hilarity, they soar into the sky, escaping the deluge and finally landing at the table again for a lucid conversation.
“ Laugh Track » is the title of The National’s second album released this year. The band announced the album days before its release during the opening night of its Homecoming festival in Cincinnati. Besides Bridgers, Laugh Track benefited from the participation of Justin Vernon of Bon Iver and Rosanne Cash.
Bridgers also featured on two songs from The National’s 2023 debut album, First Two Pages of Frankenstein, released in April (with Sufjan Stevens and Taylor Swift). In a statement, National frontman Matt Berninger said of Bridgers: “ His voice is the soft side of the song. It takes away some of the sarcastic bitterness of the song and makes it sweet. »
In addition to releasing two albums, The National spent most of 2023 touring. They have a few more dates in North America this month, as well as a series of shows in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and Europe planned for 2024.
