Ed Sheeran came to lend a hand to Passenger, who was re-recording his entire 2013 album, “ All the Little Lights “.
English singer-songwriter Passenger transformed his success “ Let Her Go » in a duet with Ed Sheeran.
The new version of the song was released on Friday (November 10) as part of a special 10th anniversary edition of the album All the Little Lights, released in 2013. Passenger re-recorded the entire album, bringing in artists like Sheeran, Foy Vance, Gabrielle Aplin and Nina Nesbitt to help reimagine the songs.
With Sheeran, Passenger finds new dimensions to explore in “ Let Her Go ”, strengthening the strings, supporting the production with piano and adding a bit of glockenspiel. Passenger and Sheeran also share vocals, making the song a true duet, with the two joining forces for irresistible harmonies on the memorable chorus. (A video of the two singers performing the song in the studio was also released).
As Passenger’s Mike Rosenberg explains in a statement, Sheeran was the obvious choice to help him re-record ” Let It Go ” due to the crucial role the pop star played in supporting her career. “ If he hadn’t taken me around the world as his opening act in the year leading up to the song’s explosion, it simply wouldn’t have happened.did he declare. I owe him a lot: he took up my cause and opened doors for me that were firmly locked. He is an incredibly kind and caring person who finds the time and energy to uplift others around him, even as he carries the world on his shoulders. He is a constant source of inspiration and a faithful friend. »
Rosenberg added of the collaboration itself: “ I’m sure some people will see this collaboration and think it’s a business opportunity, and of course they’re right: it’s not a bad thing to have one of the biggest stars in the world singing on one of my songs! But as with the other three collaborators on this album, there is a genuine and undeniable connection between him and Passenger over the years, and this song in particular. »
Although technically released in 2012, “ Let Her Go ” And All the Little Lights exploded in 2013. The song saw massive success, particularly in Europe and the United Kingdom, but also in the United States, reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100.
Passenger has continued to record and release music regularly over the past decade, releasing his latest entirely new album, Birds That Flew and Ships That Sailed, in 2022. In addition to the release of the 10th anniversary edition of All the Little Lights this year, Passenger also shared a live album, Passenger (Live From San Francisco).
