Rose Villain is ready to close the circle with “Radio Vega”, the last chapter of his Radio Trilogy.
After exploring the dark atmospheres of Gotham radio (platinum certificate) and the brightness of Radio Sakura (double platinum), the artist goes even further, up to the constellation of the lira, reaching Vega, his brightest star symbol of music and melancholy.
The constellation of the lira, illuminated by the splendid Vega Stella, is not only a point of reference in the sky, but is above all a symbol of the love suffered between Euridice and Orpheus, who will bring the latter, after death from his beloved, to pass all his life to play sad songs.
There are 13 songs, under the artistic direction of Sixpm, which complete the Rosa Trilogy of Rose Villain. At his side, in this new project, there are Guè, Lazza, Geolier, Chiello and Fabri Fibra, always linked by great esteem and mutual friendship with the artist.
We met him on the occasion of the presentation of the album.
The interview
Your new album has a deep bond with New York, a place that is not only an setting, but almost a character in your musical history. Tell us an anecdote linked to this city and the birth of the disc.
New York has always been the place where we love to create, it gives us a unique artistic energy. When we arrived to work on the disc, we still didn't have clear ideas about what to do.
The first day I woke up at dawn with a vision: “Radio Vega”. I sat on the sofa with the guitar and I understood exactly where I wanted to go with the disc.
I wrote everything on a sheet: the concept, the visual, the snake … everything.
The reference to the myth of Orpheus and Euridice is central to the album. How did this inspiration develop?
I have always been fascinated by poignant loves.
Orpheus is the musician who tries to bring his beloved back back from the underworld, but gives in to the temptation to turn and loses her forever. It is the saddest love story of all, and made me think of how much this type of pain is present in my music. I wanted to bring the myth back to a modern version.
Your relationship with music is closely linked to that with your husband (Sixpm) and collaborator. How do you balance the professional side with the personal one?
We met in the studio, even before falling in love. Among us there is a magic that goes beyond simple work. I describe an image, a feeling, and he manages to translate it exactly into music. It is a unique alchemy.
You lived the double Sanremo and a growing notoriety. Has this ever affected your relationship with music?
Sanremo is a great opportunity, but music must remain in the center. I often see that in women's pop there is a tendency to diminish the role of the artists, focus on superficial aspects such as aesthetics. But I want it to be clear that I am an artist, I write my songs, I produce my music.
Pop can be powerful and revolutionary.
A strong social awareness also emerges in your work. Do you happen to feel that your opinions are put in the background because you are a singer?
Absolutely yes. Often when I speak of certain social issues, the answer is: “You are a singer, think about singing”. This attitude tends to remove voice from women in pop, and I want to fight it.
My artistic identity also includes my point of view on the world.
What is the magic formula of Rose Villain? How would you describe your sound?
The key is spontaneity.
We only follow our taste, without thinking about what could work on the radio.
I love the surprise, I want that in my songs there are unexpected turn, gender changes, glitches, elements that displace. Mixing different influences and experimenting is what makes my sound recognizable.
The creative process between you and your team looks very fluid. How do you balance the ideas in the studio?
In the studio there is no genre or hierarchy, ideas win. For me, musical production is also a job of choosing sounds.
My role is a bit like Rick Rubin's: I understand what it works, what must be removed, what must emerge. I want my music to surprise and always have an internal evolution.
To conclude, do you feel you have found a sound that is yours alone?
Yes, I think our approach, made of spontaneous contamination and intuitions, has created something recognizable. We do not follow the trends, but we build a musical identity that represents us 100%.
You said that on this album there is your favorite song ever. What is it and why is it so special?
The thirteen traces of the album are all my little girls. I don't want to influence anyone by revealing my favorite, but those who know me will understand it immediately.
In two songs you refer to serial killer. Can you tell us the reason for this choice?
“Patrick Bateman” is inspired by my favorite film, American Psycho. I wanted to write a song with that title for years. Love in “serial killer” represents how many victims does, not only in a literal sense, but also on an emotional level. I have always had an interest in criminal psychology, thrillers, dark aesthetics.
Have you read American Psycho? Do you think that world still exists in the United States today?
Yes, I read American Psycho and I find it still very current. The idea of the perfect facade, of social expectations, of the need to always appear at best is still strongly present. Patrick Bateman is one of us, only that he slipped beyond the limit.
There will be a possible idea of a joint album with Guè in 2026
Yes it is possible! Artistically there is an incredible match between us. Every time we see you, new ideas are born. We share the same books, the same films, it is a project that excites us a lot.
The collaboration with Geolier?
Geolier and I have a unique musical affinity. He is an incredible poet, with an extraordinary sensitivity, has an incredible heart. We always write something when we are together. For me it is already a legend.
And the other feat. ?
In addition to Geolier, there are also Lazza, Chiello and Fabri Fibra. Chiello is an incredible artist, with a unique sensitivity of other times. I wanted to take him to Sanremo just to let Italy know that extraordinary artist we have in our hands.
What are the visual inspirations for the album and the setting of the tour
I love art in all its forms.
One of my favorite paintings is “La Zattera della Medusa”. I recently returned to Louvre just to review this picture that always excites me.
I really like Genieve Figgis, Guillermo Lorca García-Huidobro, this artist who makes characters with blue hair like mine and then of course Basquiat. For the scenography I want something spectacular: water, lights, meteorological elements. I am still refining the concept, but it will be something incredible.
