For the penultimate French date of his farewell tour, Elton John did not skimp on the energy to be deployed, like his fans.
Not even 10:30 p.m. yet June 27. Radious for two largely full hours, the smiles suddenly have been veiled in a certain gravity. Because less than back tomorrow, same time, or on one of the other five remaining dates on the tour, Elton John, it's over. Once and for all. And little reversal possible this time. Do they rely on the film, thinking about how much they danced and sang, perhaps more on their memories than fundamentally on evening performance, with or without their straw hats, their variegated or sparkling glasses, their boas?
Not sure they asked themselves a lot of questions, taking everything from a block, the rather crazy moments of intensity of these “levon”, “Love Lies Bleeding”, “Burn Down the Mission” viring almost in Jam, like the moments more… Balourds. Perhaps they also felt an ounce of pride at the evocation of the recording not very far from here (HĂ©rouville) of this “have mercy for the criminal” still bleeding or a “sorry seems to be the hardest word” presented by its sire as the song “the Parisian” of all those he could write. They will sort it out of all this a little later, with a restful head, preferring to ignore at the same time special sound effects and sometimes grotesque videos. Tonight, it was a question of saying goodbye and perhaps a little more, to chant a last time with a head killing all these refrains which marked twenty, thirty or fifty years of their lives.
