Review: Lisa – “Alter Ego”

Reviews

To understand what new horizons are being pushed the global pop, you must necessarily listen to “alter ego”, the solo debut of Lisa, the Blackpink star.

The album, conceived as a revelation of multiple identity, is a bold fresco in which the artist interprets five distinct alter ego, each of which embodies a different and defined personality.

The characters of Roxi, Sunni, Kiki, Vixi and Speedi materialize through songs ranging from rock to electronics, from urban to rap, marking the soil of a global pop that goes beyond the boundaries of the k-pop, now faded in his music, and knows no limits and redefines the rules of the genre.

Each character is characterized by a song from the album: Roxi (“Rockstar”), Sunni (“Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me)”), Kiki (“New Woman”), Vixi (“Fxck up the World”) and Speedi (“Lifestyle”).

Lisa's choice to multiply in multiple incarnations is as aesthetically seductive as conceptually ambitious. Each song is not only a piece of music, but a visual and sound exploration that pushes the boundaries of his art.

If on the one hand the album represents a journey into the experimentation, on the other, there is a certain lack of cohesion, as if the artist was still looking for a definitive form. However, this does not prevent “alter ego” from emerging as a work that invites us to reflect on the contemporaneity of pop, combining sound dimensions in an unprecedented synergy.

Lisa is not afraid to flaunt her success, telling a world of luxury, speed and power that is expressed in traces such as Lifestyle and FXck Up the World the one with the feat. of future.

His stylistic figure is bold, but often remains suspended in a surface game, unable to go down to the deeper meanders of the existence of a global star. Still, it's not all empty show. Songs like New Woman, Where the collaboration with Rosalía exudes reinvented energy and femininity, demonstrate Lisa's ability to explore universal themes such as liberation and transformation.

Even in the most indulgent moments, the album does not lack surprises. Its interaction with other artists, such as Doja Cat in Born Again or megan thee stallion in Rapunzel It generates alchemy, offering moments of effervescent Intesa that seem to best express Lisa's strength in the collective.

There are also jumps in the past as in the case of Moonlit Floor (Kiss Me) Where the song from the late nineties of the Sixpence None The Richer is reappointed.

“Alter Ego” is an album that does not just present a version of Lisa, but explores a thousand faces, each of which tells a part of an identity in constant evolution. Despite its fragmented nature, the album proves to be a fundamental first step to understand which direction will take global pop music in the coming years.

However, a basic question remains: what is the real Lisa?
