The idea of the film
Gaznevada-Film
The evolution of Italian music of the second half of the twentieth century passes through various stages, as well as internationally: from punk, to the new wave, from Italian disco, to house, there is a red thread that binds apparently very different musical experiences . Few other groups such as the Bolognese Gaznevada can testify with their history the transition from one season to another of this mutation of taste and musical trends. For this reason, perhaps they are considered one of the most interesting groups of our Pop Punk Rock panorama and perhaps the most important band of the Italian New Wave, not surprisingly called “the invincible guardians of the freedom of the world”.
A universal story, theirs, which tells the life of twenty -year -olds without filters who, between the 70s and 80s, chase their dream of living with music. Going Underground traces this story, bringing the historical formation of their most famous album, Sick Soundtrack (sick soundtrack) on stage, still inserted in 42nd place of the records that have most influenced Italian music according to Rolling Stones. Their golden phase has gone through and marked an ideal, political, costume season of Italian society and in particular Bolognese.
Bologna Caput Mundi
A Bologna, that of the 70s and 80s, which was a culture land for revolutionary movements and new trends of music and fashion which then became nationals. The record labels that deal with alternative music are born, one of all the Italian Records, and, through them, the English and American sound arrives in Italy. Then the wind changes in the 1980s and revolutionary regurgitations implose in the “private”, against the background of a country that passes from the political commitment to pure Honism, where concerts and self -resolution give way to DJS's discos and bobs. The New Wave gives way to the Italian Disco. Some bands die, others are sold as they can.
Between moments of exciting joy, when you think you can split the world, and moments of desperate sadness, when everything seems lost, the Gaznevada end up becoming the characters of a comic by Andrea Pazienza, with their misadventures, glory, heroin , the quarrels, the dead. They are crazy, brilliant, miserable and desperate, thus describing their generation the writer Pier Vittorio Tondelli. They make dreams, they say.
The band
THE Gaznevada They were an active Bolognese musical group between the late seventies and late eighties. As happened to other charismatic bands of the Bolognese scene-Skiantos, Hi-Fi Bros, Confusional Quartet-the group was formed in the cultural ferment of the student movement of the seventy-seven which from the University of Bologna radiated throughout Italy. Their sound was initially a mixture of punk rock, new wave, when these genres began to mix over the eighties. Then, in the second half of their career, the Gaznevada moved more and more towards pop and commercial sounds, developing a particular form of Italian-Disk.
The real musical turning point took place in 1983 with the song IC Love Affair contained in the album “Psychopathic Party”. The song is still considered a “cult track” of Clubbing music.
