Ginevra returns with “FEMINA”, a powerful and intimate album that investigates femininity in all its forms.
Dedicated to herself and to the women who have marked her life, the album, the sequel to “Diamonds” of 2022, is a musical and narrative journey that mixes strength and fragility, personal and collective stories.
In this album the protagonist is not one but many and Ginevra, in every song, gives space to each of them.
Here the singer-songwriter talks about herself as a woman, daughter, sister, niece, future mother, companion, aunt, rebellious child, river girl, but also adult, wise, warrior and much more… in each of them strength and fragility, and each of them is Geneva.
The other recurring themes in the album are the complexity of 30 years and the aura of confusion that they bring with them (“30 years” and “cupid”), the love for the beauty of uncontaminated nature and for simplicity (“the source ”, “river girl”), and again, the acceptance of one's identity and the twisted interweaving of relational dynamics (“my baby!”, “what do I want, what do you want”, “truth”).
The production of the album was entirely carried out by Francesco Fugazza (aka Fugazza), Marco Fugazza (Suorcristona) – both collaborators of Ginevra from the beginning and fundamental figures in her artistic career – and by Domenico Fizio, a precious friend and sensitive musician with whom the already consolidated trio finally has the opportunity to collaborate. Ginevra follows the artistic direction of the entire album, partly producing the title track FEMINA herself, and engaging for the first time in extensive recording and vocal editing work for several songs on the album.
On an aesthetic level, to best describe the world of disco, Ginevra chooses to translate her music through a completely feminine lens. Thus she formed an all-women team and called Aurora Rossa Manni to follow the creative direction together with her. Together they decide to contact the photographer Giulia Gatti, used to shooting the women she meets on her travels around the world, and who for the first time, with Ginevra, is approaching a musical project. So that even the imagination respects the genuineness and truth of Ginevra's songs and character, the trio involves some important women present in Ginevra's life. In fact, on the day of the shooting, some of her greatest friends were present: Erica Vitulano (on the album cover), Amanda Facoetti and Cecilia Perotti (also set designer of the project). Silvia Violante Rouge, director and videomaker, is also another important figure in the development of the project
creative.
In this interview, the Turin singer-songwriter guides us behind the scenes of her creative process, recounting the long listening work that gave life to the project and revealing how being a woman is reflected in her art. A sincere dialogue, between introspection, social denunciation and love for music.

Friday is a big day: he goes out Femaleyour new album, your second official album. The first was Diamonds in 2022, right?
Exact! Even though the way I live my projects, every work is a record, even the smallest ones. However, they have an intense internal and creative process. But yes, this is the second official album in terms of number of tracks.
Female it is a record that addresses the theme of femininity. You tell many women's identities in an intimate and collective way. Who are these women and what do they want to communicate?
I always start from myself when I make music, so there is a very strong autobiographical component. But while writing this album I felt the need to listen and observe the women around me: my mother, my grandmother, my sister, and my closest friends who also appear in the promotional photos taken by Giulia Gatti. Then there are women I deeply respect: artists, directors, authors. This album was born from research that came spontaneously, as if it were necessary.
For example, the song “Femina” talks about the importance of women's rights and criticizes gender violence. Unfortunately every day we hear terrible news on this topic, and I wanted to tell it. This album was a natural and very enriching journey, into which I put so much of myself.
In the album you talk about your thirties as a complex phase but full of opportunities. What does it mean to you to be thirty today?
I talk about my experience and the people around me. Your thirties are a troubled but also electrifying period. There are moments of confusion, when I feel lost, but also beautiful moments. What I perceive is a strong desire for lightness in this phase of life. These are not easy years, but I am learning to navigate them.
And you live these thirty years in Milan, which is not your hometown. You're from Turin, right?
Exactly, but I have lived in Milan for more than ten years. I don't feel completely Milanese, even though this city has given me so much. Milan is always in motion, and it is this constant rhythm that sometimes destabilizes me. There are so many events and stimuli, but I often feel the need to select and return to my community of close friends. The song “River Girl” reflects precisely on this: on the need to be myself, with my own times and my own rhythms, in such a rich and frenetic city.
Moving on to music, your influences range from artists like The Cardigans and Radiohead to Joni Mitchell. They can all be heard in your sound. What are your Italian ratings?
My main sources of inspiration in terms of sound are foreign, but I love many Italian artists. From Enzo Carella to Lucio Battisti, Carmen Consoli, Meg and more recent ones such as IOSONOUNCANE, Lucia Corsi and Marco Castello. I started writing in English for a question of sound fluency, but then I returned to Italian, a language that I love despite its complexity.
A fundamental element of your project is the visual aspect. You spoke before about the collaboration with Giulia Gatti. How did this synergy arise?
The visual aspect is essential, it is often the first contact people have with a project. Giulia is a photographer who I met through my guitarist, Gabriele Mellia. She usually deals with reportages and documentary shots, and had never worked with a musical artist. I was fascinated by his authentic and sincere approach, so I wanted the photos to represent my personality and that of the songs. My closest friends were on set, to make everything real and genuine. The team behind the project is also entirely female, to maintain a coherent outlook with the theme of the album.
If you had to describe yourself in the third person, how would you describe yourself?
Difficult to answer! I would say that I am an introspective person, who has always told his story through music. Music for me is a great ally, a way to express myself in a fluid way. There isn't a big distinction between Ginevra as a person and Ginevra as an artist: I grow, my music grows too. This is why Female is different from Diamondsbut there is continuity.
What makes your heart beat right now?
The trips. I just returned from an amazing experience in Thailand with a group of close friends. Traveling enriches me, makes me grow and relaxes me. Every trip leaves me with something that I carry with me into life and music.
