SKUNK ANANSIE the new single “An Artist Is An Artist” and the 2025 tour (Info and Tickets)

Music news

Skunk Anansie return with a new single, An Artist Is An Artistthe first song released by the band in almost three years.

The song, characterized by electro-wave sounds, addresses themes related to ageism and the need for approval in the digital age, with references to the provocative approach of the group's early works, such as the debut “Little Baby Swastikkka”.

The piece was produced by David Sitek (TV On The Radio), who has worked with artists such as Foals, Santigold and Solange.

After a period of introspection, working with Sitek has seen the band transform, stepping out of their comfort zone and reshaping themselves into a stripped-down, dynamic musical form, ready to take on the world once again.

His name was on a lot of records we liked. But none of them sounded the same. The projects all sounded fresh, but most importantly the artists all sounded like themselves,” Skin says of the producer.

“It reminded us that the process of creating music doesn't have to be so complicated. When a band is founded it never is. It reminded us to keep things to a minimum,” continues guitarist Ace.

Developed around their trademark Skunk riff, the band listened to Sitek as he stripped the song down to its most primal essence. Then he decided they needed to add a sax solo.

I fucking hate the sax!”, grimaces Skin, “then along came this fucking cool guy who played the sax like I'd never heard it before, and then my mantra became: trust Dave”.
