Review: GEOLIER – “God knows – Act II”

Reviews

It has now become a consolidated style for Geolier to divide his musical projects into two acts, two chapters. After 2023 with “Il Coraggio dei bambini”, the second act of his consecration album, “Dio lo sa”, arrives promptly.

Eight new songs that complete the circle of the project. A method widely used lately by rappers is to publish a deluxe edition or an appendix to an already released album.

Personally, I'm not crazy about this practice. If on the one hand, from a marketing point of view, it can be a way to refresh the album and prolong its “life”, from an artistic point of view it seems to me more like a move to add material that perhaps had remained in the drawer or is was developed subsequent to the first draft.

Regardless of this consideration of mine, the second act of “God knows” further consolidates Geolier's style, quality of writing and urban-rap attitude.

A solid confirmation of his talent and credibility in the music scene.

Moving on to listening to the eight new tracks, the album begins with the dark and dark flow of Real, to continue with the street-trap of Smith 'n' Wesson.
500k continues this attitude made of 808s, deep bass and saturation, remaining faithful to the distinctive sound of the Neapolitan rapper.

In You and I, Geolier brings out his neo-melodic side, and with Rose Villain he creates a song that has all the characteristics of becoming a romantic hit, with a fresh and engaging sound.

What a sun today instead it demonstrates Geolier's great versatility, pushing him towards a more combed and stylish urban sound, with funky and old-school suggestions (and without a doubt my favorite song!). Cchiuì Fort it's another pearl, with a straight and decisive old style, reminiscent of the sound of Cosang, a perfect meeting between past and present.

Never forever, signed DRD (Dardust), explores a different sound universe than the typical one of Geolier, showing new potential and versatility, opening new doors in his music.

The chapter ends with Nun Sacc' Losea song with a dark but at the same time intimate and stylish beat, which closes the circle of this second part with elegance and a certain emotional depth.

In the end Geolier, despite my prejudices for the format, convinces. New music is always good and Geolier's music is always real and credible and represents the evolutionary state of urban, trap and its contamination with pop and Neapolitan tradition.

God still knows Geolier!!!
