Primus announces the sudden departure of its drummer

Music news

Tim “Herb” Alexander “ lost his passion “, according to the two other members of Primus, Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde.

On Tuesday, Primus announced that its longtime drummer, Tim “Herb” Alexander, had abruptly left the band. Les Claypool and Larry LaLonde, founding members of the group, revealed on social media that they received an email from Alexander before the upcoming concerts, “ expressing that from now on he would no longer be involved in Primus. This came as a complete shock to all of us at Primus. »

After a wonderful spring and summer of touring and some fabulous upcoming projects, we were a little confused by Herb stepping aside so abruptly. After several attempts to communicate with him, his only response was another email stating that he had “lost his passion”. As disappointing as this is, we respect his choice and it has forced us to make some difficult decisions. »

Although not the group's founding drummer, Alexander was considered part of the “classic” Primus lineup. He arrived in 1989 and appeared on their 1990 debut album, Frizzle Fryand on their flagship albums such as Sailing the Seas of Cheese And Pork Soda.

Alexander walked away from the group on several occasions. First in 1996, before returning in 2003 and then leaving again in 2010. He returned in 2013, but suffered a heart attack shortly after, then another three years later . Since then, Alexander has remained a member of Primus, until Tuesday's announcement.

Despite the sudden departure, Primus announced to fans that their upcoming shows would go ahead as planned, with a few special guests: Tool's Danny Carey (who replaced Alexander in Primus when the drummer suffered his first heart attack) would join. briefly the band when Tool and Primus perform a concert together in the Dominican Republic. Primus' New Year's Eve gigs will see members of Claypool's other projects (Holy Mackerel and Frog Brigade) join in to create ” a special, unique and exciting event “.

Regarding the future of Primus, the group added that it plans to seek the ” best drummer in the world », hoping to have it ready in time for Sessanta's concerts with Puscifier and A Perfect Circle, in April 2025.
