AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS 'Cartoon Darkness' Releases: A Squirter Can Be Anyone's Genitals

Music news

Australian punk-rock band AMYL AND THE SNIFFERS return with their third album “Cartoon Darkness”.

The record. which arrives three years after the acclaimed 'Comfort To Me', was recorded in Los Angeles in early 2024 at Foo Fighters' 606 Studios with producer Nick Launay (Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Yeah Yeah Yeahs ).

THE CONCEPT

About the album Amy Taylor says:

“'Cartoon Darkness' is about the climate crisis, war, artificial intelligence, politics and the fact that people think they're helping by having a voice online when in fact we're just feeding Big Tech's data beast, the our modern god.

It's about the fact that our generation is constantly updated with information.
We look like adults, but we are children closed in a shell.

We are all passively gobbling up distractions that don't even cause pleasure, sensation, or joy, just numbness.”

“Cartoon Darkness” is driving headlong into the unknown, into this looming outline of a future that seems terrible but doesn't exist yet. A childish darkness.

I don't want to meet the devil halfway and regret what we have now.
The future is a cartoon, the prediction is dark, but it's new. It's just a joke. It's fun.”

THE VIDEO

This week the band debuted new single Jerkin', the explicit video for which was directed by longtime Sniffers collaborator John Angus Stewart of PHC Films. While a censored version appears on streaming platforms, the full, uncensored version is only available on amyladthesniffers.com (only for viewers aged 18 and over).

Amy on Jerkin':

It's nice to express your anger when someone makes you angry and it's nice to have humor in your life, especially as a woman, when you're destined to always passively say 'everything's fine' to keep others calm.

The best part about this song is that a squirter can be of anyone's genitals.

I wanted to write a song that uplifts the “self” while bringing down the “other,” because sometimes, even if it's just for a small window, that's the best way to laugh at something and empower yourself.

The world is making me angry and breaking my heart more than ever right now, I might as well respond in kind.

It's useless, but it's cathartic.”

Jerkin' is the fourth single from the new album 'Cartoon Darkness', and follows the success of the previous ones U Should Not Be Doing That, Chewing Gum, Big Dreams which obtained important recognition abroad such as Hottest Records on BBC Radio1 and Tracks of the Week in The Observer, Kerrang, Loud & Quiet, Brooklyn Vegan, Paper, Paste, Under the Radar.
