Interview – MATTEO ROMANO: “Fake Nostalgia” is the balance of these years

Interviews

“Finta Nostalgia” is the title of Matteo Romano's EP, out on Friday 25 October.

“Finta Nostalgia” represents the musical path and growth that Matteo has experienced in recent years, from the debut songs that introduced him to the scene, up to the singles that made him known to a wider audience.

Consisting of 9 tracks, it includes songs already known and loved by fans, such as “Concedimi” (double platinum disc), “Virale” (platinum disc), the collaboration with Luigi Strangis in “Tulipani Blu”, “Casa di Specchi” , the most recent “Assurdo”, and unreleased songs yet to be discovered. “Finta Nostalgia” contains the soul of a young singer-songwriter who, day after day, learns to know more and more about himself and what surrounds him, between strong emotions and relationships with people who, positively or negatively, undeniably leave the sign.

An important role in “Finta Nostalgia” is played by the producers who collaborated with Matteo in the creation of the EP: Kyv, B-Croma, JVLI, Dorado Inc, Brail, TOM and Michelangelo. These artistic collaborations symbolize the young singer-songwriter's desire to experiment and get to know each other through different methods of musical production.

We met him and he told us:

This EP of yours is almost like a balance sheet of these last few years. What does it contain?

I like the word “budget”, perhaps “Fake Nostalgia” is just that.

Inside there is what has been, but also what will come. I resumed the most salient moments of the last three years with songs already released and added my new path.

It's like the closing of a circle, but at the same time it opens a new cycle and a new beginning.

What can be found inside is a more aware Matteo, certainly, ready to experience the musical world 100%. Then now I'm also about to graduate (in communications, media and advertising, ed.), so I'm closing that chapter too.

“Finta Nostalgia” is the title of the album. Why did you call him that?

Looking back in time is a bit nostalgic, isn't it? But on the other hand it's a fake nostalgia, because it's still me!

I notice the changes, the growth, the path taken.

There is a general thread between all these pieces. I wanted to connect the various moments of my life in this continuous “work in progress”. And I look at this whole journey with a “false nostalgia”.

If you could go back in time, is there anything you would like to say to the early Matteo?

I would encourage him, although I would tell him to remember that he is not saving the world and to live these moments more calmly, having as much fun as possible.

Have you thought about taking part in Sanremo?

Honestly, right now I'm thinking about the album release and graduation. If there is the right song and the right context, why not!
