Fontaines DC takes over Lana Del Rey

Music news

Fontaines DC performed “ Say Yes to Heaven » by Lana Del Rey for BBC Radio 1, as well as « Favorite ”, taken from their recent studio album “ Romance “.

Say Yes to Heaven » is a Lana Del Rey song that has had several lives. Written in 2012 during the sessions for her third album, Ultraviolence, the song was not included on the album. Years later, a version leaked online and became a classic on TikTok. The singer officially released “ Say Yes to Heaven » last year. And today, Fontaines DC covers the song for the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge.

Behind Grian Chatten's deep vocals, the full band (Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, Tom Coll, Carlos O'Connell) brought a touch of alternative rock to the ballad.

Fontaines DC also performed the single “ Favorite », taken from their recent album Romance. This is their fourth studio album, their first in two years, which allowed them to explore new genres. In a review of the album, WECB wrote: “ The change was exciting, unpredictable, and even slightly nerve-wracking. But Romance keeps its promises: the disc is vast and the ironclad integrity of Fontaines DC still holds, perhaps with stronger resolution than ever. »

As their sound evolves, Fontaines DC make a conscious effort to approach their concerts with consistency: “ It was imperative to change every angle and aspect of what we were doing, to feel like we were taking a real step in a different direction “, Chatten told WECB at the start of the year.

Deegan added: “ After a while, your hands are still playing the same chords. We had the same outfits, the same ways of looking, speaking and doing interviews. We really tried to consciously break away from all that to stay real. »
