Without fear of change and connecting with oneself.
Under the pretext of the release of their third album, My Method Actor, This September 13th through Ninja Tunewe had a chance to chat briefly with Nilüfer Yanya who, from his home in London, told us about the changes in himself and in the way he does things.
It is known that musicians put a lot of who they are into their music. And something similar happens with actors when they use “the method”, that of remembering and reliving their own experiences to connect and become the character. “When I am on stage or when I talk about my music or interact with the audience I am not acting, I am just being more myself. I am trying to connect even more with who I am,” Nilüfer He doesn't connect with another character, he just projects who he is. And in this case, in this album he reflects a lot of his attitude towards change.
“Mutations” It talks about the slight changes one makes to survive and that shape you. “I was trying to create a realistic picture without being too dramatic about everything.” And the album takes you from vulnerability to total confidence, from fear of taking the plunge and doing what you have to do.
“Nothing makes sense anyway, so you better do what you want to do and try to be what you want,” he says in “Made Out Of Memory”: “You know I'm not ashamed to jump”. And that leap, for example, was made on this album. This time, it was just the producer Wilma Archer and she in the creation process.
From the beginning we had the intention that it would be just the two of us. And that already made the difference because we automatically gave each other a very high level of trust. We had worked a little on Painless and on my first album, but it took like five years for me to trust someone so much with my music. Before I didn’t want to work with just one person because I felt like it was giving them too much power over my project and I wanted it to be just mine. But now it’s a good thing. I realized that sharing is a very nice thing. There can be a lot of joy and fulfillment in sharing a whole process as well as the result. Plus, it makes everything lighter.”
For the moment, the tour of Nilüfer only contemplates the UK and the USA. However, he misses these latitudes. “I played in Mexico in 2019 I think and it was one of my shows favorites. I definitely plan to return.”
