SABRINA CARPENTER tops UK album and single charts

Music news

Sabrina Carpenter conquers the UK charts earning both her first UK No.1 album with “Short n' Sweet” and her third No.1 single with Taste .

In doing so, Sabrina becomes the first female artist (and only the third overall) to simultaneously place both her album and single at number one in the UK, while also maintaining the top three positions in the Official Singles Chart.

The only other artists to do so were Ed Sheeran (then 26) and Harry Styles (then 28), although at 25, Sabrina beats them to become the youngest to achieve this special kind of Official Chart domination. Justin Bieber was the first artist to simultaneously hold the top 3 singles in 2016 (at age 21), but he didn't hold the album at number one.

On the Official Albums Chart, Short n' Sweet debuts at No. 1 with a total of 89,000 units, the second-biggest first-week sales for an album this year, behind Taylor Swift's “The Tortured Poets Department,” which closed with 270,000 units on the chart, its biggest opening week in 7 years.

Short n' Sweet is Sabrina's sixth album overall, but her first to enter the top ranks of the Official Albums Chart. Her previous LP, 2022's emails I can't send, peaked at number 41.

Among the new entries are the DC Fountains celebrating the best opening week of their career to date, with their fourth studio album “Romance” which debuts at number 2.

The Dublin quintet – Grian Chatten, Conor Curley, Conor Deegan III, Tom Coll and Carlos O’Connell – have more than doubled the first week total of their previous album Skinty Fia, which topped the Official Albums Chart in 2022. It becomes the group’s fourth Top 40 album ever, joining 2019’s Dogrel (9), 2020’s A Hero’s Death (2) and 2022’s Skinty Fia (1).

Britpop is officially back, with Manchester legends Oasis who are finally reuniting after 15 years, and the country is going wild! With the announcement of Noel and Liam Gallagher's 2025 tour, the group is seeing their back catalogue grow.

Although Oasis may not set foot in a stadium for another year, they are already on course for a hat-trick. For the first time in the history of the UK Official Albums Chart, Oasis have had three albums in the Official Albums Chart Top 5 at the same time, a personal best.

The 2009 greatest hits compilation Time Flies… (1994-2009) enjoys the biggest boost, climbing 21 spots with a weekly increase of 332% (3).

The group's second LP, 1995's (What's The Story) Morning Glory?, returned to the Top 5 for the first time in four years, climbing 37 places for a 313% increase from the previous week (4).

SINGLES

In the Singles Chart, Taste by Sabrina Carpenter debuts at No. 1, becoming Sabrina's third No. 1 single this year, all of which came in just 120 days. It joins her previous No. 1s Please Please Please (2) and Espresso (3), giving her complete domination of the Top 3 today.

The last female artist to have three No. 1s in less than six months was Ariana Grande, who did it in 99 days between 2018 and 2019 with Thank U, Next, 7 Rings and Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I'm Bored. Ed Sheeran was the last artist to claim three No. 1 singles in a calendar year in 2021, while the last female artist to do so was Jess Glynne in 2015.

With Espresso, Please Please Please and Taste, Sabrina spent a total of 13 weeks at No. 1 in 2024; she is the artist with the most weeks at No. 1 in a calendar year since Ed Sheeran spent 19 weeks at the top in 2021 with Bad Habits, Shivers, Merry Christmas and Sausage Rolls For Everyone.

VINYLS

“Romance” by Fontaines DC It tops the Official Vinyl Albums Chart, the biggest-selling LP this week, and the Official Record Shops Chart, the biggest-selling album in the last seven days in UK independent record shops.
