The Robbie Robertson tribute to be held at the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on October 17 will not be a one-off event. Two days later, the Life Is a Carnival: Last Waltz Tour '24 will open with a bill that includes Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, Mike Campbell, Benmont Tench, Don Was, John Medeski, Dave Malone, Terence Higgins, Cyril Neville and Mark Mullins & the Levee Horns. (Lukas Nelson will fill in for Johnson at three Colorado shows.)
The tour kicks off October 19 at the Warfield in San Francisco, a mile from the Winterland Ballroom, where The Band performed its last original waltz 48 years ago. It will travel across North America over the next month and conclude November 16 at Meridian Hall in Toronto, Ontario.
Blackbird Presents is promoting the tour. They have organized several tours Last Waltz over the past decade, with acts such as Warren Haynes, Jamey Johnson, Don Was, Michael McDonald and Dr. John. Garth Hudson, the band's last surviving member, was a special guest on the 2016 tour.
The tour Last Waltz This year's tour reunites Campbell and Tench. They have performed together on several recent occasions, including Farm Aid in 2023 where they supported Bob Dylan, but they resisted the opportunity to reform the Heartbreakers with guest vocals.
