The rapper's name has been circulating for a possible performance at the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, this Friday, July 26. A look back at the career of a pioneering artist who has adapted to his times.
At the end of the 90s, Rim'K, Abdelkrim Brahmi by his real name, founded the group 113 with his two friends AP and MokobĂ©. It was within this formation that the rapper signed some of his greatest successes like the hit “Tonton du Bled”, taken from the first album of the group. 113 would release over time other iconic titles like “Partir Loin”, “Au Summum” or even “113 fout la merde”, a piece in collaboration with Thomas Bangalter of Daft Punk, whose influence is strongly felt. It is also one of the very rare collaborations of the French producer with another group.
With other artists from Vitry, Rim'K and 113 founded the Mafia K'1 Fry. Surrounded by legends like Rohff and Kery James, the rapper signed one of the most founding titles of French Hip-Hop: “Pour ceux”. It is in this context that Rim'K established her reputation as a rap legend, and that people began to nickname her Uncle. He then orchestrated the creation of two multi-artist albums: “Illegal Radio” in 2006 and the famous “Maghreb United” in 2009.
A rapper in tune with his times
Over the years, the Vitriot has been able to adapt like few artists of his generation. His solo career has thus given birth to some notable titles like “CellophanĂ©” or “FantĂ´me”, but it is especially in featuring that Rim'K has made his mark over time.
Rim'K has been able to collaborate with many leading figures in the change of direction that rap took in the 2010s. In 2018, he brought back Ninho, then number one in French rap, on his hit “Air Max”. In early 2024, he was invited by Jul on the track “Avec tonton”. His collaborations include Hamza, Leto, Da Uzi, SCH, Koba La D and Dadju.
Throughout his career, the musician, now 46, has continued to be part of hip-hop history, even many years after his heyday. Recent notable appearances include DJ Hamida's hit “DĂ©connectĂ©s” in 2017. He was also part of the Classico OrganisĂ© collective, founded by Jul, who wanted a large-scale collaboration between rappers from Marseille and Paris.
Outside of music, the rapper co-wrote the screenplay for the film “Once Upon a Time in the Oued.” He also appears in a few films.
