Will Smith Addresses Slapping Incident In New Single 'Work Of Art'

Music news

The actor and musician has unveiled “Work Of Art,” a single in collaboration with Russ and his son Jaden Smith. The title is said to be an extract from an upcoming album that could be called “Dance in Your Darkest Moments.”

He's back in music! Oscar-winning actor Will Smith has for a few years now abandoned his musical projects in favor of a career in cinema. His last album, his fourth, entitled “Lost and Found” dates back to 2005. The face of the “Bad Boys” saga is known for having released songs that have become classics like “Miami” or “Wild Wild West” and “Men in Black”.

Jaden Smith's father released a single with his son called “Work of Art” on Friday, July 26. Also accompanied by American rapper Russ, Will Smith delivered a poetic text in which he probably evokes the famous incident of the slap inflicted on Chris Rock during the 2022 Oscars ceremony. The phrase ” I am a saint, but if you touch me I become a savage ” strongly echoes this violent outburst, the motive of which was to defend his wife Jada, the victim of mockery from the comedian.

A new album after 19 years

In an interview given in May to the Instagram account Black Film Alliesthe interpreter of Richard Williams also revealed the upcoming release of a brand new album: ” Over the past year and a half I have been in the studio. I have a project that is the most personal and powerful musical project I have ever done. The idea of the music is to 'dance in the darkest moments' “.

This last idea could also give its title to the album. An Instagram account as well as a website called “Dance in Your Darkest Moments” are currently in development. The song “You Can Make It”, performed at the last BET Awards on June 30, could possibly appear on this album, but this information has not been made official. Will Smith has also not communicated a release date for this project.
