Sinéad O’Connor’s estate asks Donald Trump to stop using her music

Music news

The estate said Sinéad O’Connor would have been ” hurt and insulted to see her work distorted in this way by someone she herself described as a biblical devil. »

Sinéad O’Connor’s estate has demanded that the late singer’s music be removed from Donald Trump’s political campaign rallies. Last week, during meetings in Maryland and North Carolina, his flagship title “ Nothing Compares 2 U » was played during events that Sinéad O’Connor herself would have vehemently denounced.

It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt and insulted to see her work distorted in this way by someone she herself described as a ‘biblical devil’said representatives of his estate in a statement sent to Variety. As stewards of his legacy, we call on Donald Trump and his associates to immediately stop using his music. »

The representatives stated that it is with “ indignation » than the use of “ Nothing Compares 2 U » during these gatherings was brought to their attention. The statement added: “ Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinéad O’Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness and decency towards her fellow human beings. »

In an interview given to Hot Press in 2020, republished shortly after her death in July 2023, the singer spoke at length about her contempt for Mr. Trump, who at the time was still in the White House: ” No one should think they are doing this just to get elected. He’s evil enough to believe these things. They should have kicked him out of the White House the moment he separated his parents’ first child at the Mexican border. The American people are a double-edged sword. Their greatest blessing is also their greatest curse. Their national trait is kindness, and now they may be too nice. They should expel him from his office without violence. »

Sinéad O’Connor, who died of natural causes at the age of 56, posthumously joins a long list of musicians who have blocked Mr Trump from using their music in his political campaigns. They include Adele, The Beatles, Rihanna, Elton John, Bruce Springsteen, Linkin Park, Guns n’ Roses, Prince, Queen, Tom Petty, Panic! at the Disco, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, Leonard Cohen, Neil Young, Pharrell Williams, and many more.
