Mick Mars – The Other Side of Mars

Music news

Known for having been guitarist of Mötley Crüe for 40 years, Mick Mars breaks free and releases an astonishing new solo album.

Freed from Mötley Crüe forty years after the release of Too Fast for Love, Mick Mars can finally indulge his solitary desires, which he has been talking about for almost a decade. So come The Other Side of Marsa record far removed, to say the least, from the kitsch frills of the 1980s. Here, the guitarist takes out the riffs and poaches into the lands of metal, modern and aggressive, while retaining a certain sense of hook.

Thus “Loyal to the Lie” convinces with its heady chorus, while “Ain’t Going Back” feeds on riffs on steroids. The musician remains relevant, even when he slows down the tempo, notably on the inspired “Memories”, and does not forget his rock’n’roll origins with “Ready to Roll”. Unexpected, this album is a nice surprise.
