The Weeknd unveils the music video for “POPULAR” on Fortnite

Music news

It was accompanied by Madonna and Playboi Carti that The Weeknd decided to unveil the music video for “Popular” on… Fortnite.

Headlining season 1 of Fortnite Festival: Grand Premiere, The Weeknd has been putting on the show since February 16 in the video game matrix. Less than a week ago, Fortnite announced that it would have exclusive rights to broadcast the music video for “Popular”. To find out, players had until February 19 at 1:00 a.m. by going to the viewing area created for this purpose.

A nice surprise, especially since we had to wait seven months to discover the clip for this collaboration with the iconic Madonna and rapper Playboi Carti. To keep fans waiting, The Weeknd shared a visualizer in June 2023. In it, we discovered behind the scenes of the crazy evening experienced by the cast of the series “The Idol” on the Croisette, on the occasion of the Cannes film festival. Not much, however, to do with the clip revealed on Fortnite.

“Popular”: a clip with three facets

“Popular” is the title designed exclusively for “The Idol”, the HBO series for which Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd) played both the role of producer and actor. For the clip, the artist with his usually eccentric style kept it simple. In what looks like a French chateau, The Weeknd sings and dances in the gardens and corridors dressed in black, profiled glasses screwed onto his nose.

On the other side of the globe, in a New York penthouse, Madonna also seems to be living “her best life”. An appearance that seduces fans since on social networks they are full of praise about her: “Madonna is still the queen”, “Finally Madonna dressed to perfection! Fresh and Modern! “.

What also seems to create a surprise is the presence of Playboi Carti, who has accustomed his fans to making only very rare appearances in the clips. “The fact that Carti appeared in the video instead of hibernating as usual is surprising. », We can also read in the top comments on Youtube. A collaboration which results in a fashionable and futuristic clip which corresponds well to the three artists brought together.
