Mavis Staples will celebrate her 85th birthday with a concert

Mavis Staples will be joined by many artists, including Chris Stapleton, Grace Potter, Hozier, Jeff Tweedy, Norah Jones, The War and Treaty and many more.

Mavis Staples will celebrate her birthday a few months early during the Mavis Staples 85th: All Star Birthday Concert. The event, scheduled for April 18 at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles, will see the gospel and soul singer perform as a headliner, with appearances by Chris Stapleton, Grace Potter, Black Pumas, Hozier, Norah Jones, and many more. (Staples turns 85 on July 10).

“ Late last year I was talking about retiringStaples said in a statement. But after thinking for a while, I stopped and thought, “What would I do?” I asked the Lord, “Why am I still here? What do you want from me ? Is there a reason You kept me?” And the only reason I found was to sing my songs. That’s why I’m still here, and I’m looking forward to this show with my friends who also sing my songs! »

Additional artists will be announced ahead of the event, but the list of announced artists also includes Jackson Browne, Jeff Tweedy, Keb’ Mo’, Michael McDonald, Nathaniel Rateliff, Robert Randolph, Taj Mahal and The War and Treaty. Don Was will serve as musical director and Blackbird Presents CEO Keith Wortman will serve as executive producer.

Mavis Staples will also be in concert on June 18 at the Casino de Paris. Places are available via the organizer’s website.
